Partial Retraction - Lose your house, lose your vote

Hi all. My earlier post about Republicans in Michigan trying to deny people who's homes have been foreclosed on may not be true. A friend of mine contacted a friend of hers who lives in Michigan, and there has been no mention of this anywhere there. It also turns out that the source, the "Michigan Messenger" is a very left leaning blog. Now, I know that this is a left leaning blog as well, but that does not mean that I am going let bad information pass off as the truth, even if it benefits my side.

Anyway, the "Messenger" is standing by its story. The Michigan Republican party is of course saying it is not true. Here is a link to an article about this in the Detroit News:

I will keep looking into this story, and will post any significant updates. If this turns out to be false, I am truly sorry for passing on bad information. Lies and distortions have NO PLACE in the political process, no matter which side they come from.

As mayor, Palin charged rape victims for rape kits

From Huffington Post:

Despite denials by the Palin campaign, new evidence proves that as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin had a direct hand in imposing fees to pay for post-sexual assault medical exams conducted by the city to gather evidence.

Palin's role is now confirmed by Wasilla City budget documents available online.

Palin's record in Alaska

Seems her claims of being a reformer might be a bit of an exaggeration. Shocking, I know.

McCain campaign lying about Palin crowd sizes?

The McCain camp is claiming huge turnouts for their rallies featuring Sarah Palin. They say these numbers come from local fire departments and Secret Service estimates. Problem is, neither of these groups gave them any numbers. So, where are they getting these crowd estimates from? Seems they might be just making them up.

Michigan Republicans plan to foreclose African-American voters

The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County, Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP’s effort to challenge some voters on Election Day.

“We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,” party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

Does McCain have the temperament to be President?

See for yourself...

New McCain ad hits new low

Seems McCain has a new smear ad running accusing Obama of supporting sex education of kindergarten kids. truth is, the bill he supported (but did not sponsor as McCain apparently claims) age appropriate sex ed for kids. The kindergarten kids would have learned about how to stay away from sexual predators. Is Mark Foley working for McCain, writing his ads? Here are some links debunking the story.

So who actually vetted Palin?

Apparently John McCain's vetting process consisted of Googling Sarah Palin's name, and talking to her on the phone for 15 minutes. However, there was one group who vetted her, and they REALLY liked what they saw. Read this article and see if you want these people in the high levels of the US Government.

Women Against Palin

This is a blog that was started as an e-mail. The people that started it sent out an e-mail to 40 friends asking them to express their concerns about the Palin nomination.
Here is the letter:

Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters,

We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce—on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate—that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and all together devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from.

First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here: with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation.

Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence.

We will post your responses on a blog called "Women Against Sarah Palin," which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience—the greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your time and action.

VIVA!

Sincerely,

Quinn Latimer and Lyra Kilston

**PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY! If you send this to 20 women in the next hour, you could be blessed with a country that takes your concerns seriously. Stranger things have happened.

Here is a link to the blog. I will also include this in my links section.
